![]() ![]() ![]() We chose The Grooms Cottage in order to have a private place of our own, and we loved it! The room was niceley decorated- VERY comfortable couch and bed! The fireplace was a very nice touch and we even had a small outdoor patio with a great view of the countryside. It was an amazing stay overall! The Inn Keeper Suzanne was very accommodating and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. I travelled to the Meander Inn to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday this past weekend. There are simply better Virginia inns at this price level. At these prices, a B&B or inn should deliver high value. It's just that we've been to many inns in Virginia for roughly the same cost and have found the rest of them to be of higher quality. Not trying to be a diva or a real complainer. And breakfast is served at a single time - you also couldn't go in to the dining room for dinner or breakfast until serving time. For example, I had a very hard time getting confirmation back from the Inn for the reservation and dinner. And, again, it was little things that left a less-than-high-quality feel. Felt at times like the staff - especially at meal times - was just going through the motions. Elmwood at Sparks in Orange was much better. ![]() Dinner was good - and the wine pairings were excellent - but dinner was overpriced. And it's the little things - like ceiling molding that does not go all the way to the end of a wall, bed linen that is just average quality, a window a/c unit that had to be left on all night, or an entrance driveway that is in desperate need of repair - that start to add up. Not necessarily a big deal - but for this price, there should be more storage space. For example, our cottage had a small closet and no dressers for clothes. Location is beautiful - very nice surroundings. Stayed at the Inn for two nights and had one dinner. However, if you're staying at a historic plantation over 200 years old, you shouldn't expect a very modern feel in my opinion. The property itself is in a good location for exploring the local area, although showing it's age here and there. It was some of the best french toast I've ever had. We were unable to join dinner while there due to the wedding and having our son with us (he wouldn't have tolerated a two hour, five course meal for mom and dad), but we did enjoy the breakfast in the dining room immensely. I believe they only did this because we were not staying in the main house, and certainly would not plan on that being the case every time, but we appreciated their flexibility on short notice. The innkeepers also made an exception when our childcare fell through and allowed our four-month old son to stay with us in the room. The bed was very comfortable and we appreciated the multiple shower heads and temperature control in the giant walk in shower. It was recently renovated and you could tell they put a lot of thought into it. We stayed in the Madison Cottage, which was very comfortable and nicely appointed. We booked at Meander on the advice of the bride and it served our purpose fine. We recently attended a wedding at the Inn at Willow Grove, which is just down the road from the Inn at Meander Plantation. We would highly recommend staying at the Meander Inn, and we hope to go back in the future! There are some great antique stores in the area and a really good chocolate shop in Culpeper. The Inn was the perfect location between Culpeper and Orange if you would like to get out and about. We were able to see the cemetery on the far back side of the property (the walk to the cemetery is completely worth it!) The sunsets were beautiful every evening we were there. The grounds were perfect to walk around and just relax. We truly enjoyed talking and getting to know Suzanne. Suzanne (and Callie) was so accommodating and patient with our dog Cypress (she has a tendency to jump when she meets new people). Our dog who is picky about food loved the homemade treats. My two favorite items that we had were the "Eggs Ranchero" and the Espresso Dark Chocolate Pots de Creme (was out of this world!). We had an awesome picnic lunch and a dinner basket. The food was amazing! We had a wonderful 3 course breakfast every morning. The bed was very comfy, especially for afternoon naps! There was ample storage space for clothing. Our room (Madison Cottage) was very neat and clean. We stayed for 3 nights and loved every minute. We went to get away from the city and relax before our first baby arrives (in October!). We truly enjoyed our stay at Meander Plantation. ![]()
